ONLY one man has come forward to donate blood after an appeal went out from Bahrain’s blood bank for people with the rare B negative blood type to come forward.
The 48-year-old Indian from Kerala, went to Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) after the call was sparked by a patient suffering for a nosebleed, who needs transfusions while he is being treated with antibiotics.
The GDN reported yesterday that Briton Kenneth Wragg was admitted to SMC on May7 and had several transfusions since then.
“I read the article in the GDN and decided to donate blood,” said the donor, who didn’t want to be named.
“I also circulated a copy from the article to all my friends and relatives here.
“I have been donating blood for many years and every time I donate blood, I don’t want to mention my name, as this is a voluntary work.
Mr Wragg’s family is appealing to people to come forward and donate blood.
The 69-year-old arrived in Bahrain six weeks ago on a visit visa to see his daughter Caroline McEwen, who lives here with her Australian husband Michael McEwen and six-year-old son Karter.
Mr Wragg is scheduled to leave Bahrain on June 14 if his condition gets better, said Ms McEwen.
A Blood Bank spokesmen said that three more people had called, but were unable to come for the donation because they were working in the morning.
“However, we can receive donors from 4pm to 7pm on Sunday, Monday and Wednesday,” he said.
The bank said earlier that eight bottles have already been issued and two units were still available for the patient.
